Mermaid Beach with its beach-themed street names, such as Ocean, Surf, Wave, and Albatross, and its convenient location between Broadbeach and Burleigh Heads, has evolved as one of the most desirable addresses on the Gold Coast.

Hedges Avenue, that runs along the beachfront, provides a historical guide to the evolution of the Gold Coast beach house, with old timber and weatherboard homes and beach flats neighbouring some of the most extravagant modern beach houses in Australia. It is also home to much of the Coast’s busy surfboard industry. Mermaid Surf Club is the training base for Australian Surf Life Saving champions Karla Gilbert and Ky Hurst.

Somewhat quieter than Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach makes this beach's tranquil surroundings seem endless. With the small swell, sheltered picnic areas, bike tracks and childrens playground you could say this is the perfect family beach!

Mermaid has a wide variety of restaurants, take away shops and bistro's and a cinema complex. Mermaid is close to Pacific Fair, one of Australia's largest shopping complexes.
